Single Parents Who Travel summer 2024 Egypt group trip

Happy Summer, Single Parents Who Travel!

I’m super excited to write this letter to you as we’re less than a month away from our 6th annual summer 2024 family vacation to Egypt! For the past 5 years, we’ve been traveling together to different beautiful places around the Caribbean and North America, now Africa, starting with Egypt, for our 6th annual group trip.

After taking in ancient Egyptian civilization and learning the history of the Pharaohs, we are thrilled to announce we are embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime safari-themed trip to South Africa for our 7th Annual Single Parents Who Travel Family Vacation!

On this incredibly special 9-DAY, 8-NIGHT adventure from July 12 to 20, 2025, we’ll join other single-parent families from around the world in taking in The Big Five on safari and enjoying other, marine-life excursions, while participating in some amazing cultural adventures and eating mouth-watering South African delicacies. How cool will it be to not only educate our kids in real-time about native culture but also allow them to participate in traditional South African activities while engaging with nature and wildlife?

We’re super excited to bring this trip to you all and look forward to meeting as many of you as possible! We wanted to make this trip financially possible for everyone, so take advantage NOW of our up-to-yearlong payment plan with a deposit of just $400 deposit per person ($400 per child and $400 per adult). GROUP EXCURSION

    CAPE TOWN

With its majestic Table Mountain backdrop, Cape Town is one of the most beautiful and exciting cities in the world; an eclectic mix of architectural styles reflects the tastes and dictates of the past and the more functional demands of the 20th Century. Cobblestone streets, mosques, and the flat-roofed pastel homes of the Malay quarter enhance a cosmopolitan ambiance and in a recent development, the restoration of the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront evokes images of the seafaring activities of the 19th century. At the end of the day, gourmets and lovers of sophisticated entertainment have a treat in store as the choice for your evening’s repast is vast.

    Highlights:

    • Scenic drive along the Atlantic coast and pass through the fishing village of Hout Bay
    • Take a cruise (weather dependent) to Seal Island to see the large colonies of Cape Fur Seals. (Cruise ride is included in the package)
    • See 180° views of the Cape Peninsula during the Chapman’s Peak Drive
    • Look out over the shining sea from the Cape Point Lighthouse
    • Explore Boulders Beach where you can sit among a colony of African penguins
    • Take a ferry to visit and tour around Rubben Island. (A ferry ride is included in the package)

    SEAL ISLAND

Seal Island in False Bay, South Africa, is a small, rocky outcrop known for its significant population of Cape fur seals, which can number up to 75,000. Located about 5.7 kilometers off the coast of Cape Town, the island is a hotspot for great white sharks, especially during the winter months when they hunt the seals, creating dramatic and renowned predatory displays. This makes Seal Island a popular destination for shark cage diving, boat tours, and wildlife photography. As part of a marine protected area, the island plays a crucial role in the conservation of marine life in the region.

    BOULDERS BEACH

Boulders Beach, located near Simon’s Town in Cape Town, South Africa, is famous for its colony of African penguins. Nestled among large granite boulders, the beach provides a unique and picturesque setting where visitors can observe these charming birds up close. Part of the Table Mountain National Park, Boulders Beach is a protected area that offers boardwalks and viewing platforms to minimize human impact while allowing for excellent penguin-watching opportunities.

    ROBBEN ISLAND

Robben Island Museum, Cape Town Central

Robben Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The island has a history that spans centuries, having been used as a prison, a leper colony, and a military base. Today, Robben Island is a symbol of the triumph of the human spirit over adversity, offering guided tours that provide insights into South Africa’s struggle for freedom and justice. The island is accessible by ferry from the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.

    MPUMALANGA

Mpumalanga is one of the nine provinces of South Africa. The name means “East“, or literally “The Place Where the Sun Rises” in the Nguni languages. This is where the South African National Park, Kruger National Park, is located. It is the largest safari park in South Africa and is home to the Big Five as well as all of the country’s large carnivores and boasts the largest populations of several game species including White and Black Rhino, Savanna Buffalo, and Savanna Elephant.

    Highlights:

    • Two-day open-vehicle game drive to the Kruger National Park.

    KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

Kruger National Park, located in northeastern South Africa, is one of the largest and most famous game reserves in Africa. It spans across the provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga and covers an area of approximately 19,485 square kilometers (7,523 square miles). The park is renowned for its high density of wild animals, including the Big Five: lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, and buffaloes. The massive expanse of the Kruger National Park is home to over 147 species of mammals, 114 reptile species, 51 snake species, 49 fish species, and a massive 508 species of birds, a number unrivaled anywhere else in South Africa.

    JOHANNESBURG

Johannesburg, often referred to as Jo’burg or Joburg, is the largest city in South Africa and the economic heart of the country. Located in the Gauteng Province, it is a vibrant metropolis known for its skyscrapers, bustling markets, and cultural diversity. Johannesburg played a central role in South Africa’s gold mining industry and is now a major financial and business hub. Key attractions include the Apartheid Museum, Constitution Hill, and the vibrant Maboneng Precinct. Despite facing challenges such as economic inequality, Johannesburg is a dynamic city with a rich history and a thriving arts and culture scene.

    Highlights:

    • Visit and learn the history of the Apartheid in the Apartheid Museum
    • Have a Boma dinner at Lesedi Cultural Village.  The Boma (dinner) cultural experience is a 2½ hour program starting at 4:30 pm daily.
    • Explore South Western Township (SOWETO) and visit the Hector Pieterson Museum, Mandela House and Regina Mundi Church

    APARTHEID MUSEUM

The Apartheid Museum, the first of its kind, illustrates the rise and fall of apartheid.  The museum is a superb example of design, space, and landscape offering the international community a unique South African experience.  The exhibits have been assembled and organized by a multi-disciplinary team of curators, filmmakers, historians, and designers. They include provocative film footage, photographs, text panels, and artifacts illustrating the events and human stories that are part of the epic saga, known as apartheid.  A series of 22 individual exhibition areas takes the visitor through a dramatic emotional journey that tells a story of a state-sanctioned system based on racial discrimination and the struggle of the majority to overthrow this tyranny.  For anyone wanting to understand and experience what apartheid South Africa was really like, a visit to the Apartheid Museum is fundamental.  The museum is a beacon of hope showing the world how South Africa is coming to terms with its oppressive past and working towards a future that all South Africans can call their own.

    LESEDI CULTURAL VILLAGE

Lesedi Cultural Village | Accommodation Cradle of Humankind

Guests are taken to the Ndebele village where a welcome by all the people of Lesedi, takes place. The program begins with a multi-visual presentation on the history and origins of today’s rainbow nation, followed by a guided tour of the five homesteads. Guests are escorted to the Boma for traditional singing and dancing – a very participative affair!

    SOUTH WESTERN TOWNSHIP (SOWETO)

You know the name. It’s a legend. SOWETO, an acronym for South Western Township, is home to over 2 million people, who, despite living in crowded and chaotic conditions, have a tangible sense of community, one which ironically, the ordered, walled, elitist northern suburbs lack. Inside Soweto, you will visit the Hector Pieterson Museum and discover the cause of the tragic riots that led to his death.  Photo stop at Mandela House. Your journey continues to Regina Mundi Church, the site of many secret underground meetings of the then-banned political parties. Soweto is unlike a suburb you’ve ever seen or been to, yet the history of struggle encapsulated here is a cornerstone of the South African story.

Don’t miss out on these one-of-a-kind experiences in South Africa with Single Parents Who Travel.
